Northumberland Ferries Limited
Since 1941, Northumberland Ferries has been transporting passengers and their vehicles between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Sailing across the Northumberland Strait with fresh salt sea air and the sun sparkling off the water, it’s hard to imagine a better way to arrive on the Island. As you approach the shores of our gentle Island, you and your guests will be captivated with the picturesque scene of red-cliff shores and a crisp white lighthouse that will guide you into this little slice of paradise.
This 75-minute ferry trip runs across the Northumberland Strait between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia, just outside of historic Pictou. Walk or drive aboard our vessels – the mv Confederation and the mv Holiday Island – then relax, stretch your legs, and experience the beauty of the Maritime sea and sky.
Summertime crossings feature unforgettable Seaside Experiences, a showcase of the finest music, entertainment, food, wine, and beer samplings the region has to offer. Treat yourself to a meal or snack onboard in our Salt Water Café which features a selection of locally-sourced hot and cold menu items. In the summer months, be sure to enjoy a delicious ice cream treat from COWS Ice Cream (mv Confederation) and on the mv Holiday Island, soft-serve cones are available in our snack shop (on select sailings). For local souvenirs, check out the Caribou Ferry Terminal, home to Caribou Gifts (open daily between 10am-6pm) or visit In Good Taste Gift Shop aboard the mv Confederation. An outdoor seating area allows passengers to enjoy the fresh sea air during the crossing along with the best photo-ops of the coastline.
