One big happy FAMily!

Thanks to our nine visiting planners and over thirty members who participated in the Meetings & Conventions PEI September Fall Familiarization Tour on September 3rd – 5th.

Planners attended from across Canada and experienced three full days of true PEI hospitality including sites and experiences in Charlottetown, Summerside, and Cavendish. From the moment of arrival to departure there wasn’t a minute that wasn’t captured of PEI’s best! It’s a real privilege to show off our Island to them!

“PEI is truly a one-of-a-kind destination in Canada.
It should be considered for your future conventions”

Desmond Lomas – The Howes Group

“An informative and action-packed FAM that provided
an exceptional overview of all that PEI has to offer!’

Claire McGowan – Canadian Rheumatology Association

“From the warm hospitality, great food, and the knowledge
I am bringing back to my team and office,
it was well worth my time and I would highly recommend it.
You have an amazing team to showcase and support
your province in the events industry!”

MJ Bailey – Lorandus

Canadian Meetings & Events Expo

As usual, the 2019 Canadian Meetings & Events Expo, held in Toronto in August, was an amazing opportunity to connect with fellow meeting and event professionals from across the country.  The diverse agenda covered items ranging from Security for the Business to Cannabis Tourism: the New Frontier and from Designing and Delivering Motivational Experiences to Storytelling with Second City. No wonder it is the largest and longest-running trade show for industry movers and shakers.

Attending members (in photo from L to R):

Janet Higgins, National Sales Manager – Rodd Hotels and Resorts
Chrissy Jardine, Regional Director Of Sales – D.P Murphy Hotels
Susan Freeman, Executive Director – Meetings & Conventions PEI
Margaret Wilton, Business Development Manager – Meeting & Conventions PEI

Maximizing Membership

[one-half-first]It’s safe to say that when Brady McCloskey purchased a Meetings and Conventions PEI membership back in 2017 he had no idea what he was getting into.  Sure, he researched the organization and liked what he saw enough to become a member, but he didn’t anticipate how he would be able to maximize his membership to boost his photography business to a whole new level of success and growth.

Joining M&C PEI has opened “many new opportunities” for Brady connecting him to clients and industry peers he wouldn’t have had contact with otherwise. Through direct leads, he’s booked meetings and conventions business from a diverse group of local & national organizations. An example of this was when Show Canada brought its movie industry conference to PEI in 2018, Brady was the hired photographer.  The organization was so pleased with his work, they booked him to photograph their 2019 conference in Kelowna, BC.

Brady encourages other MCPEI members to get the most of their membership.  Keep up to date on what is going on, attend events, submit proposals and remain open to opportunities which may come your way.

Grant Thornton makes its mark on PEI

Hundreds of partners from the business advisory firm Grant Thornton were on P.E.I. in September to see what they could learn from Atlantic Canada’s hottest economy. We were thrilled to have Grant Thornton here on PEI and they were thrilled to experience our Big Fish in a Small Pond special treatment. However, the PEI Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown was the big winner receiving a $50,000 donation from company.  This legacy, as a result of our bringing Grant Thornton to the Island, is sure to bring a lot of smiles to the faces of Island children.
